Mozambique and Tanzania Strengthen Cooperation With Focus on LNG Projects

Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi is making an official four-day working visit (1, 2, 3 and 4 July) to Tanzania this week, following an invitation from his counterpart, Samia Suluhu Hassan. During his stay in Tanzania, the statesman will meet with senior figures with the aim of strengthening diplomatic and trade relations between the two countries.

According to the Tanzanian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in East Africa, January Makamba, the discussions will focus on the areas of education, security, infrastructure, mining, oil and the exploitation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the province of Cabo Delgado.

“On arrival, Filipe Nyusi will be received by various government officials. On 2 July, he will be received at State House in Dar es Salaam by President Samia Suluhu Hassan for private discussions, followed by media briefings and the signing of agreements in important sectors such as health, telecommunications and education,” said the official quoted by Club of Mozambique.

According to Makamba, there is a need to improve commercial transactions between the two nations, pointing out that last year’s activities totalled approximately 17 million dollars, down from more than 57 million dollars in 2022.

“Strengthening trade relations is a priority. That’s why we’re counting on the Mozambican statesman to inaugurate the 48th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair on 3 July,” he concluded.
