Schneider Electric Bets on Mozambique to Expand Sustainable Energy Solutions
The agreement, embodied in a letter of intent, aims to promote access to clean and reliable energy in priority regions, with emphasis on sub-Saharan African countries, including Mozambique, which is one of the nations covered. The partnership seeks to combine cutting-edge technology with community action, contributing to the development of key sectors such as health, education, agriculture and rural entrepreneurship.
‘Access to sustainable energy is fundamental to human progress and the strengthening of basic rights. By uniting Schneider Electric’s technical capacity with Humana People to People’s grassroots work, we are able to bring transformative energy solutions to schools, health centres and entire communities in rural areas,’ said Jesper Wohlert, the organisation’s director of European partnerships.
The main pillars of the collaboration are community development, climate action, strengthening gender equality and empowering young people and women through technical and vocational training in renewable energy.
Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation, is at the forefront of the energy transition and has been active since 2009 through its Access to Energy programme. This programme’s mission is to reduce energy inequality in disadvantaged areas by providing accessible technologies and promoting technical training with a view to the self-sustained development of communities.
‘This partnership is more than a technical initiative. It is a commitment to social transformation. We want to ensure that everyone has access to reliable, clean energy solutions capable of generating lasting economic development,’ said Albert Fuchet, Schneider Electric’s global vice-president for the energy access programme.
At a local level, Humana People to People, present in several African countries, including Mozambique, will coordinate the implementation of the projects with the support of its network of non-governmental organisations and technical-vocational training centres (TVET).
The action includes the identification of priority communities, local logistics and mediation with Mozambican authorities and partners, ensuring that the interventions effectively respond to the concrete needs of the population.
Among the priority areas of action are: electrification of health centres and schools; support for sustainable agriculture; creation of opportunities for young entrepreneurs; training in technical and business skills; and energy interventions in humanitarian crisis scenarios.
In 2023 alone, Humana People to People implemented more than 1,500 development projects around the world, reaching around 17.9 million people, mainly in vulnerable communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
