M-Pesa and TotalEnergies Sign Partnership for Digital Payments Across Mozambique
TotalEnergies representative Nerusha Govender emphasised that this is an important step towards strengthening the company’s digital presence and improving its customers’ experience.
‘At TotalEnergies, we have been integrating digital solutions into our services, but we want to go further. This partnership with M-Pesa represents a clear commitment to financial inclusion. We know that many Mozambicans are still outside the formal banking system. With our vast network of stations, we aim to bring convenience to communities by facilitating access to digital payments,’ he said.
In addition to accepting M-Pesa as a means of payment, the partnership also includes the possibility for M-Pesa agents to access liquidity directly at TotalEnergies service stations – an innovation that, according to the parties, will energise the service network and support the sustainability of the digital ecosystem.
M-Pesa’s managing director, Sérgio Gomes, emphasised that the agreement represents more than convenience: it is a lever for economic development and social inclusion.
‘We are empowering millions of Mozambicans. This partnership will allow a farmer to receive digital payments for his crops, a mum to send money to her family with a simple click, or an entrepreneur to run his business without relying on cash. We are building a stronger, more prosperous and more resilient Mozambique,’ he emphasised.
Gomes added that this is just the first stage of a wider ambition: to digitalise the entire TotalEnergies ecosystem, from distribution to customer service, integrating technological solutions across the entire value chain.
‘We want to go beyond simplifying payments. We have the capacity and vision to transform the commercial experience at petrol stations and provide differentiating solutions to the market,’ he concluded.
