ENH to specialize in offshore drilling for oil and gas research
Mozambique’s Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) is to invest in the specialized provision of offshore drilling services in the area of research and production, thus reinforcing the state’s participation in the country’s oil and gas projects.
To this end, a shareholders’ agreement was signed on Friday in Maputo between ENH Exploration, a specific purpose entity of ENH, and Saipem International B.V., representing the Italian multinational services company Saipem.
‘Notícias’ has learned that the mission of the company to be created will be to provide services based on the use of an offshore drilling platform, with the appropriate project management skills and HSE (health, hygiene and safety) systems in place.
The company’s share capital is split 51% for ENH and 49% for Saipem, in a partnership valid for eight years, renewable upon agreement between the parties.
This partnership places ENH in the specialization and nationalization of drilling services, which contributes to the materialization, in the short term, of the role of operator, and immediately in the active participation in the provision of services in areas still in the exploration phase, adding value to the company and to Mozambique generally.
The signing was witnessed by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, and by the Chair of the Board of Directors of ENH, Ludovina Bernardo.
ENH’s main assets are its shares in oil and gas exploration and production concession contracts. The company’s assets include research assets and equipment, a natural gas processing centre and associated complex, and a gas pipeline of approximately 850 kilometres connecting Pande/Temane and the Secunda region in South Africa.
This pipeline is complemented by infrastructure for the supply of natural gas to the distribution networks in Matola, Maputo and Marracuene, for the use of this resource in the domestic market.
In addition to these core assets, ENH owns yard and warehouse facilities, residential and office complexes in Vilankulo district, Inhambane province, and in Maputo.
