ENH Challenged to Invest in Expansion and Distribution of Piped Natural Gas

mpresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) has been challenged to expand the distribution of piped natural gas to other regions of Mozambique, including the north of Inhambane province, in the south of the country, as part of a strategy to expand its essential services.

According to an article published in the newspaper Notícias on Monday 25 November, the appeal was made by the company’s president, Ludovina Bernardo, during a recent working visit to the ENH office in Vilankulo, Inhambane.

She emphasised the importance of replicating the successful experience of distributing piped natural gas in different regions of the country, as well as stressing the need for a qualified team to guarantee the proper operation and maintenance of the infrastructure, as well as health, safety and quality issues.

The source also emphasised that the expansion of the natural gas network not only meets the growing demand for this clean energy source, but also responds to the challenges of the company’s presence in the oil and natural gas project areas.

‘We are pleased and impressed with the way natural gas is contributing to improving the lives of our communities, in particular keeping girls in school and reducing deforestation,’ said Ludovina Bernardo.

The visit included an inspection of the activities underway in the districts of Vilankulo, Inhassoro and Govuro, where ENH has implemented the distribution of piped natural gas, already covering 900 families in the expansion phases of the project.

These projects are part of a larger strategy to help reduce deforestation in the country and promote the use of clean energy. ENH has endeavoured to ensure that local communities have access to natural gas, which has a direct effect on improving quality of life and strengthening environmental sustainability.
