Governor and Secretary of State launch Afungi Industrial Park, in Palma

A historic step was taken in Cabo Delgado with the laying of the first stone in the construction of the Afungi Industrial Park on Friday, part of the Provincial Government’s CD Parks initiative. The ceremony to launch the construction of this project was presided over by the Governor of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabo, and the Secretary of State for the Province, Antonio Supeia.

Cabo Delgado Parks (CD Parks) is an initiative of the Government of Cabo Delgado designed to take advantage of the economic opportunities offered by the Province in a way that promotes sustainable and equitable development of local businesses and communities.

CD Parks will build a network of five agro-industrial parks, co-developed and operated by MozParks, Mozambique’s leading developer and operator of Multisectoral Eco-industrial Parks. These parks will be located near the large mining and energy projects in Ancuabe, Balama, Montepuez and Palma, and with a logistics park in Pemba. The parks will work with local SMEs and suppliers to support these projects and boost industrialisation and job creation. Business centres will also be operated in every district to ensure participation from the whole province.

The ceremony to lay the first stone in the Afungi Industrial Park is an important milestone in the development of CD Parks. In recognising the importance of this initiative, the Governor of Cabo Delgado said, “this stone is to give us hope that in the future we will have more people working”.

An important component of CD Parks is its commitment to providing training and community opportunities alongside its business support. MozParks’ Managing Director, Onorio Manuel, said, “with this act, the province of Cabo Delgado is defining its path towards industrialization. CD Parks is a local content initiative, designed to stimulate the provincial economy, create jobs, and strengthen Cabo Delgado, providing income to over 100,000 people in the province. CD Parks will create appropriate conditions, including infrastructure and business services to attract and host foreign investment and local SMEs. The Afungi Industrial Park will allow the transformation of raw materials provided by local farmers, fishing processing, food supply, catering, logistics, green economy opportunities, construction, and maintenance and much more.”

By partnering with large-scale investors, local farmers, businesses, NGOs and local communities, CD Parks will be an important hub for regional development in Cabo Delgado.
